The Area

La Rocco Apartments sit back in a quiet setting at the southern end of the glorious five mile long St Ouen’s Bay, offering panoramic views over the beach.  It is just across the road from the longest sandy beach in Jersey.  La Rocco is the ideal location for watching the renowned sunsets over the bay.

The panoramic sweep as you descend into St Ouen’s Bay is undoubtedly one of the most impressive views Jersey has to offer.  It is one of the few places where people co-exist peacefully with the natural world.

Today environmental education makes us all appreciate the value of wild, wide open spaces.   This priceless resource means different things to different people – whether engaged in activity or just sitting in the sun and admiring the view.

La Caumine à Marie Best

This is an old guard house beside the beach in St Ouen’s Bay.  It is also called the ‘white cottage’ due to its distinctive whitewashed walls.  Surrounded by thrift in spring and sea lavender in summer.

La Lande de Ouest

Part of the dry coastal heathland lying above the cliffs along the greater part of the south-west coast.  A designated Site of Special Interest (SSI), and rich in flora and fauna, this area is an important part of the island’s landscape and biodiversity.  A great area for walking and birdwatching.

Les Blanches Banques.

The sand dune system at the southern end of St Ouen’s Bay is recognised as an SSI and more than 400 plant species have been recorded here.  It also provides home to the super Jersey Green Lizard.

St Ouen’s Pond (La Mare au Seigneur)

Probably the most significant wetland in Jersey, it is a dedicated nature reserve with open water, reed beds and a marshy perimeter providing habitats for fish, insects, flowers and birds, including the Marsh Harrier which can often be seen gliding above the pond.  There are two bird hides within the reserve.  They are open to the public throughout the year.  In additional guided walks are held from time to time.

Gun emplacements and underground bunkers.

As you wander around Jersey you will see towers, forts and German bunkers, which are a testament to a colourful history spanning more the 1,000 years.

From July 1940 the island was under German Occupation.  Overnight, motorists had to drive on the right instead of the left, schoolchildren were taught German and the Reich mark replaced the pound.  Thankfully liberation came on the 9th May 1945.

Kempt Tower Visitor Centre

Kempt Tower is buzzing with hands on activities for all ages.  Natural history, agriculture, wildlife films, the tower is packed with environmental information.  There is a surfing exhibition, military section and breathtaking views from the roof of this genuine Martello tower.

Jersey Surf School

The Jersey Surf School is the only British Surfing Association and ISA approved centre in Jersey offering professional surf coaching by accredited instructors.  Their staff guarantee the highest level of coaching, all of whom are qualified beach lifeguards.  They also offer a full range of equipment for hire 7 days a week.

Les Mielles Golf and Country Club

A challenging 18-hole golf course set in a stunning position overlooking St Ouen’s Bay.  Surrounded by beautiful scenery and wildlife together with the Activity Centre offering an 18-hole miniature golf course, laser clay pigeon shooting, target shooting and the ever popular Segway Rally.
